The Sentinel System

Pins that don't jam.
Connections that don't fail.

Our pin-flange locking method securely fastens barge sections without bolts. No frozen threads. No corroded connections. The unique double-headed pin allows quick assembly and disassembly — even after years in the water.

  • Many small connections distribute stress evenly
  • Upper pin head supports a 2×4 flush with the deck
  • Two pins create a solid alignment — full pinning recommended
  • No critical-stress failure points

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers about heavy deck barges, charter terms, and global delivery.

How much does a Sentinel sectional barge cost?+
Pricing depends on the configuration — Standard 10×20 / 10×40 sections, Heavy Duty Crane 10×40×7, Back Lake 8×20, and any options (spuds, ramps, rakes, hoppers). Most contractors spec a fleet of multiple sections that pin together, and orders of four or more sections qualify for our fleet discount. Call 1-800-222-7777 or request a quote for current pricing in CAD.
What is the lead time on a new barge build?+
Standard sectional barges typically ship in 8–14 weeks from order confirmation, depending on order size and shop schedule. Heavy Duty Crane Barges and fully custom builds run 12–20 weeks. We also keep a rotating in-stock inventory of new and used sections — see the Inventory page for what's available now for immediate delivery.
Can you customize a barge to my exact specifications?+
Yes. Every barge ships with engineered and stamped drawings, and our shop builds fully custom barges to your project requirements — non-standard dimensions, internal or external spuds, rake (angled bow) sections, drive-on/drive-off ramps, hopper boxes, kevels, lifting shackles, ladders, and railings. Send us your job specs and we will engineer the platform.
Do you ship barges across Canada, the USA, and worldwide?+
Yes. We deliver throughout Canada and the United States by truck — sectional barges break down to fit standard truckable loads (the Back Lake even stacks two-high without permits). For overseas projects we coordinate ocean freight from the Port of Montreal. Our shipyard is located at 18965 SDG County Rd 43, North Glengarry, ON K0C 1B0.
How much weight can a Sentinel barge hold?+
Our Standard Barge is rated for 36,000 lb evenly distributed deckload. The Heavy Duty Crane Barge supports a 58-ton payload per 41′4″ section with one foot of freeboard. The Back Lake Barge handles 20.3 tons per 20′ section.
Are Sentinel barges Transport Canada approved?+
Yes. Every Sentinel barge ships with engineered and stamped drawings and is Transport Canada approved. Steel conforms to CSA G40.20-13 / G40.21-13 grade 350W and welding meets CSA W59 standards.
How do the sections connect together?+
Sentinel sectional barges use a pin-flange locking system — a heavy steel pin drops through aligned flanges on adjacent sections. It seats positively, doesn't jam from corrosion, and can be field-disconnected for redeployment. No bolting, no welding on site.
